Joseph Ki-Zerbo, n\u00e9 le 21 juin 1922 \u00e0 Toma (Haute-Volta, aujourd\u2019hui Burkina Faso) et mort le 4 d\u00e9cembre 2006 \u00e0 Ouagadougou, est un historien et homme politique burkinab\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir pass\u00e9 son baccalaur\u00e9at \u00e0 Bamako, Joseph Ki-Zerbo suit des \u00e9tudes d\u2019histoire \u00e0 Paris. Il soutient sa th\u00e8se de doctorat \u00e0 l\u2019Institut d’\u00e9tudes politiques de Paris. Ki-Zerbo devient professeur des universit\u00e9s. Il enseigne \u00e0 Orl\u00e9ans, \u00e0 Paris puis \u00e0 Dakar en 1957.<\/p>\n

Joseph Ki-Zerbo va renouveler, avec le S\u00e9n\u00e9galais Cheikh Anta Diop, les \u00e9tudes sur l\u2019histoire de l\u2019Afrique. Comme lui, il soutient la th\u00e8se controvers\u00e9e d’une \u00c9gypte antique originellement noire. Cependant, Joseph Ki-Zerbo ne fait pas de l’\u00c9gypte l’origine de l’ensemble des cultures africaines.<\/p>\n

Son ouvrage, l’Histoire de l’Afrique (1972) est un vaste panorama diachronique, circonstanci\u00e9 et rigoureux, rendu vivant par des extraits de chroniques, des grands \u00e9v\u00e8nements et des \u00e9volutions des peuples du continent. Le fait de pr\u00e9senter les \u00e9volutions sociales, \u00e9conomiques et politiques de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que d’autres encyclop\u00e9dies ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 l’Europe et l’Asie, replace l’histoire de l’Afrique au m\u00eame rang que celles des autres continents. La pr\u00e9sentation diachronique \u00e0 l’\u00e9chelle du continent souligne ainsi de fait l’\u00e9volution contigu\u00eb des diff\u00e9rentes grandes civilisations, les points communs et l’\u00e9change des id\u00e9es mais aussi le fait que les chocs qui les ont abattues ont une origine commune : l’expansion europ\u00e9enne et ses cons\u00e9quences (expansions marocaine, turque et omanaise).<\/p>\n

De 1975 \u00e0 1995, Joseph Ki-Zerbo pr\u00e9side l\u2019Association des historiens africains. Joseph Ki-Zerbo fut pendant de longues ann\u00e9es un membre du Conseil ex\u00e9cutif de l\u2019UNESCO.<\/p>\n

Il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 l\u2019un des plus grands penseurs de l\u2019Afrique contemporaine.<\/p>\n
